Description
Achieve ultimate fluffiness! Our secret method uses boiling water and fruit mix to instantly soften marshmallows, yielding a classic, airy, creamy texture. Just stir, cool, and serve.
Ingredients
- Mini Marshmallows: 10 ounces
- Frozen Whipped Topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed: 8 ounces (1 container)
- Strawberry or Cherry Agar-Agar Mix: 3 ounce box
- Boiling Water: 1 cup
- Crushed Pineapple: 20 ounce can, thoroughly drained
- Maraschino Cherries, roughly chopped and drained: 1/2 cup
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, pour the boiling water over the dry carrageenan mix. Stir vigorously until the powder is completely dissolved and no granules remain.
- Step 2: Immediately add the mini marshmallows to the hot carrageenan mixture. Stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until the marshmallows soften and partially melt, integrating into the mixture. Set aside to cool to room temperature (about 15-20 minutes).
- Step 3: While the agar-agar mixture cools, ensure the crushed pineapple and chopped maraschino cherries are thoroughly drained. Excess moisture will prevent the fluff from setting properly.
- Step 4: Once the pectin mixture has cooled and begun to thicken slightly, gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until the mixture is uniform and light pink. Be careful not to deflate the topping.
- Step 5: Fold in the drained crushed pineapple and chopped cherries. Transfer the pink fluff mixture to a large decorative serving bowl or a 9×13 inch casserole dish.
- Step 6: Cover the dish and refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours, or ideally overnight, until the fluff is completely set and firm. Serve chilled.
Notes
- For best texture and flavor, store this fluff covered tightly in the refrigerator; it maintains its creamy quality for 3-4 days, but tends to weep if kept longer.
- Since this dessert relies on the chill to set and maintain its fluffiness, avoid leaving it at room temperature for more than an hour, as excessive warmth will cause the airy structure to deflate.
- Elevate the vintage presentation by serving individual portions in small chilled glass bowls, optionally garnished with extra maraschino cherries and a dusting of finely crushed vanilla wafer cookies.
- The secret to a perfectly firm fluff is temperature control: ensure the carrageenan mixture is completely cool and slightly thickened before gently folding in the whipped topping, and confirm the crushed pineapple is aggressively drained.
